This book is an excellent addition to the library of those learning about Wicca, or for Wiccan covens and teachers to offer to their students as a teaching aid. It covers all the basics offering different interpretations and viewpoints in an unbiased way. It is not aligned with any particular Wiccan path or tradition, so can be fitted in with any chosen branch of the Craft.

There are excellent chapters on the history, principles and ethics of Wicca, and what Wicca is not. This will aid the newcomer to get a clear picture of the beliefs of the Craft.

There are many subjects covered that are beneficial to those beginning Wicca. You will find information onĀ  initiatory tradition, trance work, the ritual altar and ritual tools, magical work, the Equinoxes and Solstices, the Great Goddess, Gerald Gardner and Gardnerian Wicca, the Green Man, Joseph Campbell, and Margaret Murray.

Sabin details how each person's path is essentially unique, which is important to remember, as Wicca is not about simply following the teachings of an authority, but exploring your own spirituality.

The book contains ample exercises to kick off your learning and understanding of magickal work. The protective skills and guided imagery found in this book may well be applicable to non-Wiccans also, as they are down to earth and practical.

Overall the book is enjoyable and fun to read. Sabin's sense of humor shows in her writing and this book is certainly a lot more than just a textbook. This book needs to be in every Wiccan's library.

Thea Sabin is a professional editor and writer whose work has appeared in numerous publications, both pagan and non-pagan, and is a former newspaper astrology columnist. A practicing Wiccan since her teens, the author received formal training in a British Traditional path and currently she and her husband run a coven of the same tradition. Sabin holds a Masters Degree in Education, is an avid organic gardener and lover of Hong Kong gangster movies. She makes her home in the Pacific Northwest. Wicca for Beginners is her first book.
