Penczak gives various definitions for the word “witch” in its various aspects, including “the healer” and, like the shaman, a “walker between worlds”. He outlines the historical and modern traditions of Witchcraft describes and offers thirteen lessons, complete with exercises, meditations, and homework, that fit in with a comprehensive study course, the duration of which is an entire “a year and a day”.
This book has plenty of useful and practical information on things such as eclectic witches, how to use instant magick, information about magickal traditions and magickal work (including the magickal mindset and magickal abilities), psychic travel, working in a light meditative state, the invoking pentagram and the banishing pentagram, the Book of Shadows, the Great Spirit, the Wiccan Rede, Gerald Gardner, and The Kybalion.
This book fills in the gaps left by many other introductory books on Wicca, so is an essential addition to a beginners library. So if you get stuck on “how to go into a light trance” or “visualize your intent” then this book is for you.
The book is well designed, and on top of the great content Penczak provides a comprehensive bibliography and recommended reading lists.
All in all this is an excellent book and a welcomed and important addition to the Wicca 101 book list.
